Firearms Background

In 1995, I attended the California POST approved FBI Firearms Instructor course at the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department.  The course focused on building the necessary skills to train law-enforcement officers in the proper safety, handling, and use of firearms, including pistols and shotguns.

In 1996, I attended a carbine rifle instructor course, also at the LASD.  The course included breakdown and assembly of the AR-15 rifle, as well as teaching students to become proficient in the use of the rifle.  Following this course, I was responsible for developing and implementing a training curriculum to convert my department to the AR-15 rifle.

I received additional firearms training throughout the course of my career .Additionally, I am a Ca. DOJ Certified Instructor, with the ability to teach California approved CCW courses.

After completing both of these courses, I was responsible for conducting regular range trainings with pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

In 1997 I was assigned to the San Mateo County Narcotic Task Force where I had the additional duties of range master and tactics instructor.  Weapons systems included the Remington 870 pump action shotgun, the H&K MP5, Colt AR-15 rifles and various makes and models of handguns.

In 2000, I transferred to the California Department of Justice.  I attended basic high risk entry school, entry weapons school (MP-5, HK-53 and M4), and Sniper School (SJPD).  During my tenure at the San Jose regional office, I was assigned to the Violence Suppression Unit (VSU / SWAT) where I also investigated high profile violent crimes. Additionally, I had auxiliary duties of firearms and tactics instructor.

I was occasionally assigned to the United States Marshall’s Service on a fugitive apprehension team.  The Marshal’s Service also tasked me, along with other instructors, on safe high risk entry techniques and room clearing.

I have had the privilege of instructing firearms and tactical operations on a local, state federal and also civilian level. I am a member of NTOA (National Tactical Officers Association) and regularly review “industry best practices”put forth by them.

I completed my career at the Redwood City Police Department where I was occasionally called upon for my Firearms Instructor skills; my primary job was handling a dual purpose police K9. In my off time, I taught dozens of men, women, and children about the safe use and handling of firearms.

During the course of my 23 year career I had the privilege of training hundreds of law enforcement officers (local, state and federal) on the safe use and handling of various firearms. I look forward to offering these skills to you.  I want to make you a safe firearms owner who is confident, comfortable and proficient with a gun, while also enjoying the sport of shooting.
